Website upgrade · Sew & Sew Wines, McLaren Vale

A faster winery website, built to fill the cellar door

We rebuilt Sew & Sew Wines' website from the ground up, moving the McLaren Vale winery off Squarespace. On a phone, the main content now loads in 1.7 seconds instead of 13.4, the page is a quarter of the weight, and tastings, club memberships, and event tickets each have a clear path from the first click.

See the difference

The old homepage was the shop, with a scrolling postage banner as its first message. The new one says who Sew & Sew is and gives visitors two clear next steps: book a tasting or shop the range. Drag the slider to compare.

Measured with Google PageSpeed Insights on mobile, median of three runs per site, 11 September 2026. Before is the live Squarespace site at sewandsewwines.com.au. After is the new build on its pre-launch preview, and its first load includes the 18+ age gate a licensed producer has to show. PageSpeed does not count the old homepage's background video; with it, a full load came to more than 12MB in our own Lighthouse runs. Both sites already score 100 for accessibility and best practices, so we have left those out. On desktop, the main content now loads in 0.6 seconds instead of 3.1.

03/The wine club

A wine club that says what it costs

The old club page described two memberships but never showed a price, so anyone ready to join had to leave the site to find out. The new page puts the price up front ($350 for a curated 12-pack, or 20 percent off a case you choose), works through the savings and shows an example case before anyone clicks join.

04/Search

Built to be found in McLaren Vale

None of the old site's eight main pages mentioned McLaren Vale in its title tag, the line Google shows in search results. Every one does now, each aimed at a search people actually make. It is the kind of groundwork our SEO team builds on.

Structured data on every page type

Winery, product, event, and breadcrumb schema, so search engines and AI assistants can read opening hours, prices, and dates without guessing.

Every old URL accounted for

All 66 pages from the old sitemap either live on at the same address or 301-redirect to their closest match, protecting links from 268 referring domains (Ahrefs), including Broadsheet and InDaily.

A description written for every page

All 50 pages carry their own meta description, written to earn the click. The cellar door's leads with flights from $20, open seven days from noon.

Traffic results to follow

The new site goes live in September 2026. Once there is a full period of data, we will add the organic traffic and conversion numbers here, measured the same way as our Hilton Bradley rebuild.

05/The build

What went into the rebuild

A winery sells a visit, a membership, a ticket and a case, often to the same person. We wired every one of those paths into the new site, using the tools Sew & Sew already runs.

Tastings booked on the page

The FareHarbor booking flow opens right on the cellar door page, so a visitor can lock in a tasting without leaving the site.

A club page that sells

Real prices pulled from the club platform, the savings laid out, and an example case, with join buttons that go straight to VinoFlow.

Events that are actually on

Only upcoming events get ticket buttons, each linked to its live TryBooking page. Past events move to an archive instead of selling last year's tickets.

Every signup lands in Mailchimp

The footer, events page, ICON page, and a welcome-offer popup all feed the list Sew & Sew already sends its campaigns from.

Seven conversions measured

GA4 and the Meta pixel carried over, plus seven tracked actions: tasting bookings, club joins, ticket clicks, buy clicks, signups, wedding enquiries, and contact forms.

An age gate that stays out of the way

The 18+ check a licensed producer needs is rendered on the server, so it appears instantly and skips visitors who have already confirmed.

Every page, rebuilt

A consistent design across the whole site, from the cellar door to the shop, in Sew & Sew's own stitched brand.

Why a website upgrade pays for itself

A website is often the hardest-working member of your team. When it is fast, findable and built to convert, it earns its keep, and it gives the rest of your digital marketing a stronger place to land.

Speed is money

Google found 53 percent of mobile visits are abandoned when a page takes longer than three seconds to load. Sew & Sew's old homepage took 13.4 seconds to show its main content on a phone.

Found by the right people

Title tags, structured data, and clean redirects give search engines and AI assistants a clear picture of what you offer and where you are.

Every page has a next step

Tastings, club joins, tickets, and enquiries each get one obvious button, and every one is measured, so you can see what the website earns.

You own everything

No lock-in and no proprietary platform. The site, the content and the domain are yours to keep.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a new website cost?

Most business websites start at $10k. Larger, more complex builds go up to $20k. You get a fixed quote before any work begins, so there are no surprises.

How long does it take?

Around four weeks from kickoff to launch for a typical site. We agree the timeline up front and keep you updated at every step.

Can you move us off Squarespace, Wix or WordPress?

Yes. We moved Sew & Sew off Squarespace, carried every wine, event and page of copy across, and 301-redirected every old URL that changed, so rankings and backlinks carry over to the new site.

Will our booking, club and ticketing tools still work?

Yes. We connect the tools you already use rather than replacing them. Sew & Sew kept FareHarbor for tastings, VinoFlow for the wine club, TryBooking for events and Mailchimp for email, all wired into the new site.

Will a new website improve my Google rankings?

A faster, search-ready site gives you a much stronger foundation. Every main page on Sew & Sew's new site now targets a real McLaren Vale search. We cannot promise rankings, but we build every site to be found.

Do I need to move my hosting or domain?

We handle the technical move for you and you keep ownership of everything. Your domain, your content and your site stay yours.
